The Challenge

Why automation projects stall — and how to prevent it

Most food manufacturers don't lack ambition — they lack coordination. Automation projects fail when equipment vendors aren't aligned, process requirements aren't defined early, and there's no single accountable partner managing the full scope.

See How We Work

Stagnant OEM solutions

Equipment manufacturers are stuck with their current product lines — internal pushback to innovate, long development cycles, and solutions designed for their catalog, not your plant.

Inexperienced contractors

General contractors lack specific automation expertise and outsource design back to OEMs — creating a loop that leaves you without a truly independent engineering advocate.

No single accountable partner

When engineering, procurement, and commissioning are split across separate firms, accountability gaps appear at every handoff — leaving your team to manage the friction.

The Next Tech Difference

A single partner from concept to commissioning

We coordinate every phase of your automation project so you don't have to manage the gaps between vendors, engineers, and contractors.

Independent Systems Engineering

Vendor-agnostic solutions and customer-driven design. Deep systems engineering experience means every recommendation is built around what your plant actually needs.

Custom Automation Expertise

Unique approaches and deep machine understanding. When off-the-shelf doesn't fit your product, we engineer the solution — changing industry norms, not accepting them.

Reliability Through Commitment

From due diligence to beyond commissioning. We stay in the project — not just through planning, but through startup, acceptance, and long-term plant support.

Experience

Built on real plant experience

Zack Lynch, PMP — founder and principal of Next Tech Automation — has throughout his career delivered over $75 million in automation systems across food, automotive, electronics, and distribution.

Turn-Key Automation Systems

View All Services
Consulting

Automation Consulting

Strategic guidance for manufacturers evaluating automation. We assess feasibility, define scope, and identify the right systems for your operation.

  • Engineering feasibility studies
  • Rough order of magnitude (ROM)
  • System fit and throughput analysis
Planning

Pre-Construction Planning

Detailed plant layout development, 2D and 3D design, process flow definition, and construction-ready documentation before a single dollar is committed to build.

  • 2D/3D plant layout design
  • Process flow development
  • Budgetary quote coordination
Procurement

Equipment Sourcing

Single-source equipment procurement across all system categories — eliminating the coordination burden and interface gaps that stall most projects.

  • Vendor selection and bid management
  • DA Matrix development
  • Contract management
Integration

Custom Process Development

For lines that require custom automation concepts, we engineer purpose-built solutions that fit your product, throughput, and plant environment.

  • Custom automation concepts
  • Process parameter definition
  • Equipment specification
Technology

Software Integration

Production visibility, MES integration, and controls alignment — connecting your new equipment to the data infrastructure that supports plant leadership decisions.

  • Production visibility systems
  • Controls and MES integration
  • OEE tracking and reporting
Support

Ongoing Plant Support

Long-term partnership after commissioning. We remain available for performance issues, expansion planning, and continuous improvement as your operation evolves.

  • Post-startup performance review
  • Line optimization
  • Expansion planning

Built for food manufacturing compliance. All automation is designed to USDA, OSHA 1910.147, ANSI/RIA R15.06, and NFPA 70/79 standards.

How We Engage

Project Lifecycle Support

Every engagement follows a structured process — from initial feasibility through long-term plant support.

1

Engineering Feasibility & ROM

Clarify vision and determine feasibility before committing capital.

2

Systems Engineering

Establish scope, design plant layout, and define system capacity.

3

Equipment Procurement

Single-source procurement with coordinated vendor scopes.

4

Project Management

Mitigate risk, track progress accurately, and control costs.

5

Onsite Engineering & Support

Reduce deployment stress and sustain long-term OEE.

Common Questions

What buyers typically ask us

What size projects do you work on?
Most of our projects fall in the $500K–$10M range, though we've supported both smaller retrofits and larger greenfield builds. Project size matters less than project complexity — we're most valuable when there are multiple vendors, custom engineering requirements, or tight commissioning timelines.
How does your pricing work?
As an automation distributor, Next Tech receives special OEM pricing. That discount is how we get paid — without customers needing to pay anything extra. Options also exist for engineering consulting fees on early-stage projects.
What does "single-source" really mean?
It means you have one accountable partner across every phase — feasibility, design, procurement, project management, and commissioning. You're not coordinating between a design firm, an integrator, and three equipment vendors. We hold the scope together and own the gaps between systems that typically cause startup failures.
How long does a typical project take?
Timelines vary significantly based on project scope and equipment lead times. A feasibility study typically takes 2–4 weeks. Full projects from feasibility through commissioning often run 12–24 months. We'll give you a realistic timeline during our initial conversation — not one that gets revised every quarter.
Do you work outside food manufacturing?
Our primary focus is food manufacturing — it's where our compliance expertise and industry knowledge create the most value. We've also delivered projects in automotive, electronics, and distribution. If your industry has complex multi-vendor automation requirements and a need for coordinated project management, reach out and we can assess the fit.
